If Wishing Made It So…

3 unusual seeds on red velvet

These magical seeds were a gift from a magical person. I expect they will grow some magic.

“If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride.”

Yet, wishing often does make it so. Magical thinking gets a bad rap. Sure, it’s not always the solution, but it can be very powerful.

There are lots of cautionary tales about wishes—foolish wishes, greedy wishes, unconscious wishes, wishes with unintended consequences… Common to all of these is “be careful what you wish for”—and implicit in that theme is that wishing often DOES make it so, so you’d best pay attention to your wishes.

I’m inspired by the tarot. The 7 of Cups shows the spaciness of having many wishes floating around you. It can be pleasant to while away the hours in your daydreams, yet to manifest your inspired vision usually means you need to focus on your one truest wish and let the others fall away. I know that idea may cause anxiety for some: “I DON’T KNOW WHAT MY ONE TRUEST WISH IS!!!” (8 of Cups). That’s ok. That’s why it’s worth playing around with the idea. Try some creative visualization. What you wish for today may be different than what you wish for tomorrow, but over time, the wishes that have more resonance for you will make themselves known. The more clear you are about what you wish for (9 of Cups), the more likely your wish will come true (10 of Cups). It’s a process. Don’t neglect it.

So, if wishing made it so, what would you wish for?

Here’s a wishful guided meditation for you (about 7 minutes long):
